I have to admit that the foods tasted great on my first flight via Thai Airways from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, but the business class meals became repetitive on other continuous flights which was a bit too much in the end. You will need to reserve your meals in advance especially as a vegan or with dietary needs. The sooner you make requests, the less stressful.
I reserved mine as:
Vegetarian oriental meal (VOML): Vegetarian oriental meal prepared in Chinese style with no root produces.
My partner reserved his as:
Strict European vegetarian meal (VGML): Strict European vegetarian. No animal products of any type.
From Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok via Thai Airways Business Class
The European/Western vegan meal was fried rice with vegetables in tomato sauce. The tomato sauce was pretty bland with no flavour. It comes with a salad with artichoke hearts as well as a fruit plate. You can dip bread rolls in tomato sauce or with vegan margarine.
The Oriental vegan meal was an interesting one: steamed rice with shiitakes and baby Chinese corns as well as roasted red peppers and bok choy. It is a very typical Buddhist-style meal. It comes with a salad with fresh sliced bean-curd sheets, shredded peppers and gingko nuts which I like the most as well as plum dressing which I do not really like. Dessert was some agar-style jello with dried exotic fruits. Not a fan of agar.
From Bangkok to Auckland via Thai Airways Business Class
Comes with appetizers which I really like, then identical meals that I had on an earlier flight, unfortunately, which was too much for me.
Oriental vegan meal appetizer: Interesting taro filling in shiitake mushroom with some flat noodle as well as a veggie “rib” I actually prefer the flat noodle, too bad they serve one piece.
Western vegan meal appetizer: Fried rice in red pepper and vegan fried spring rolls. I liked the mini spring rolls for the most part.
Some interesting dry noodle with shiitake mushroom and gingko nuts and some green veggies. It tasted good for the most part.
