Manila: Vegan Cupcakes at PIPINO Vegetarian

PIPINO Vegetarian serves vegan cupcakes and all of their desserts are dairy-free and egg-free. According to their signage, they use whole wheat flour, Muscovado or Coco sugar, canola oil, coconut milk and almond milk to make their baked goods. While in Manila, I had to try their vegan cupcakes and see if there is a difference in cupcakes I tried around the world. The cupcakes weren’t that dense (which I despise) which was a good part, but the flavours weren’t very strong in frosting and cupcakes. Unfortunately most cupcakes are not gluten-free.

Here were few vegan cupcakes I brought back from PIPINO Vegetarian:

Banana Chia Muffin I could see chia seeds in the banana muffin, but with no texture. It tasted like what a vegan banana muffin should be.

Lemongrass Ginger Pipino Cupcake with Lemon Cream Frosting I had their amazing Pipino shake and I was hoping their cupcake would taste like it. Unfortunately it tasted more like a lemon cupcake for me. It didn’t really have a strong lemongrass or ginger flavour.

Green Tea Cupcake I am a massive fan of green tea and I drink these sorts of herbal & green teas all the time (Taiwaneses like me love teas even tea soups). Unfortunately I don’t taste the green tea from the cupcake.

Banana-Choco Peanut Cupcake This was the only cupcake that has obvious flavours due to the chocolate and peanut. I thought it tasted good. It wasn’t too overwhelmingly sweet or dense, but it was just a fairly average banana cupcake with peanut-chocolate frosting on it.
