2014 was another amazing and busy year for us, we’ve been so grateful for the support we’ve received and the opportunities we’ve had to visit some remarkable cities and meet such amazing people. We’ve had a hectic start to 2015 so this recap comes a bit later than expected but it’s never too late to look back and share the highlights of 2014 at Vegan Miam. We can’t wait to share a few of our favorite meals and recipes from 2014!
Our destinations were vast and varied this year, hitting more countries than we managed in 2013 and taking more time to stop and meet with people (including Koko’s Kitchen) along the way. We started the year in Paris, ended in Melbourne and in between we visited Mexico, Peru, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Italy, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.
At home we crafted more Asian dishes, one of which won the best Appetizer for Virtual Vegan Potluck and was also featured in Fresh View Magazine. Some of our favorite dishes from 2014 will also be featured in upcoming e-books in collaboration with other bloggers. It was a tremendous year and I want to thank all of our readers for their support and interest in Vegan Miam during 2014 and we hope you are as excited about 2015 as we are!
We can’t thank you enough for your continued support in 2014. For the year ahead we intend to produce more recipes inspired by our travel and more Asian dishes. We look forward to all of your comments, shares, emails, likes, loves, referrals and contributions to Vegan Miam in 2015. We do this for our readers and we know we can’t do it without you. (Mexico City, Mexico) Cate de mi Corazón: Vegan Verdolaga Salad & traditional Mexican tortilla soup “Azteca” (can be made vegan without Oaxaca cheese)
(Taipei, Taiwan) Vegecreek: Vegan Udon with sweet potato vine (greens), cabbage, king oyster mushroom, oyster mushroom, dried tofu, veggie balls, faux ‘blood’ rice cake, rice ball, soy meat, pumpkin and sesame seeds in mildly spicy broth.

(Little India, Singapore) Gokul Vegetarian: These are beyond amazing vegan dosas (spicy tofu sambal + masala potato). Bottom right is Murtabak – stuffed pan-fried prata with spicy ‘soya chunks’ served with lettuce and gravy.

(Bangkok, Thailand) NAHM Bangkok: Lastly, we recently returned from a month in Thailand and we had the opportunity to dine at what is widely considered to be one of the best restaurants in Asia – NAHM. The attention to detail, attentive service and unique local flavors and techniques made for an unforgettable vegan dining experience. I would unreservedly recommend Nahm to any foodie visiting Thailand. Make a point of visiting Nahm for a change of pace from the lovely street food and for one exquisite meal.
(Melbourne, Australia) Admiral Cheng-Ho: Umami Mushrooms (slow roasted mushrooms on a polenta bread with almond feta, thyme & red chili oil) + Crazy Jimbo (polenta bread with almond feta, kale, seasonal veggies with beetroot relish & basil cashew cream) + African Baked Beans (North African style baked beans served with almond feta and avocado on toast).

(Auckland, New Zealand) Hectors Restaurant Auckland: There’s the Heritage Hotel in Auckland, where they offer a raw vegan breakfast, an exclusively vegan lobby bar menu and an extensive vegan menu for lunch and dinner including a vegan wine list. Organic Tofu & Pea Stuffed Potato is Executive Chef Jinu Abraham’s winning lunch dish from the New Zealand Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2014.
