Vegan LVX Nail Lacquer Summer 2014 + Gel Top Coat Review

It’s that busy summer season and between finalizing a few projects and preparing for our upcoming trip to Italy, I managed to test out the absolutely eye-popping and amazing LVX Summer 2014 collection. LVX manages to continue coming out with even more stunning collections, this season they’ve even included their new gel-like top coat that provides a perfect manicured look. As always, all LVX products are cruelty free and vegan as well as 5-free and free from all toxic and harsh chemicals.

about

The brother-sister duo, Branka and Rade Tomic founded LVX, a vegan nail-lacquer line. Made in the U.S.A., their products are vegan, cruelty-free, 5-free and free of toxic and harsh chemicals. LVX denotes ‘lux’ in Latin, meaning light, the essence of all color. LVX products are formulated without the use of formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP, toluene, and camphor. Their formula also does not contain guanine (fish scales), silk, keratin or carmine. Their long-lasting and chip resistant lacquers are heavily pigmented and many only require one coat with no top coat.

the verdict

I wasn’t sure what to expect for the LVX Summer 2014 collection. I had imagined bright lacquers combined with some more neutral colors (the tones I usually pair with my summery wardrobe) and maybe even some cooler tones to contrast the bright summer colors. I was pleasantly surprised with this collection and in utter disbelief that they had even included a pair of colors very similar to those of Vegan Miam : Laguna & Lemondrop.

Vegan LVX Gel Top Coat

Along with the six colors released in the Summer 2014 collection, LVX also released a new Gel Top Coat. I’m already loving the Gel Top Coat and I have always quietly wished LVX had something like this before. The Gel Top Coat helps prevent your manicure from fading and yellowing. I just love how it produces a high gloss finish that makes your nails fuller and the colors pop. The top coat is easy to use, just apply slowly and let it dry completely – if accidentally touched or smudged, it will completely ruin the manicure. My favorite lacquers from this collection? Lolli and Laguna. How about you?

Lemondrop

Lemondrop (Summer 2014) is a delicate shade of yellow with a soft tone. LVX describes this color as being bright and energizing with a bit of playfulness to it. The first coat of this smooth finish-high shine lacquer applied a bit thin, so I applied two extra coats. This was among the most difficult LVX lacquers to apply but well worth the trouble.

My manicure above consists of one clear base coat (LVX 3 in 1 Treatment), three coats of Lemondrop, and one LVX gel top coat.

Viola

This indigo-violet lacquer applies a deep yet vibrant color. I don’t often choose dark violet colors, but Viola (Summer 2014) pairs very well with black as well as contrasting colors like red and yellow. After one week of wear, the dark bluish color faded into a somewhat turquoise blue (that I sort of enjoyed), this was likely due to number of different soaps I exposed my nails to – part and parcel of the life I live in the kitchen.

My manicure above consists of one clear base coat (LVX 3 in 1 Treatment), two coats of Viola, and one LVX gel top coat.

Laguna

This has to be one of my favorite colors of the year so far – the sky blue Laguna (Summer 2014) is also the prominent color in the Vegan Miam logo. This was the easiest color of the Summer 2014 Collection to apply and only required one thick coat. On top of everything else, this can’t miss summer color, as LVX says, induces a calming state of mind.

Porcelaine

Porcelaine (Summer 2014) is a classic ivory color, consider it a more neutral and muted version of Spring 2013’s Fantom (timeless white). It is indeed a go-to summer shade that pairs well with just about everything. I just adore the minimalistic and chic look of Porcelaine with my summer wardrobe. You have to be careful applying since it is a very white color, the first coat will appear transculent and may require an additional 1 or 2 coats to get the desired color consistency.

My manicure above consists of one clear base coat (LVX 3 in 1 Treatment), three coats of Porcelaine, and one LVX gel top coat.

Aster

Aster (Summer 2014) is an homage by LVX to the dominance of the Pantone Color of the Year 2014, Radiant Orchid. Aster is a bold and sophisticated bright lilac color with soft tones. This flower inspired color pairs well with black, white and everything in between. I like to think of this one as a more radiant pastel, making Aster an ideal shade for that transitional period between Spring and Summer.

My manicure above consists of one clear base coat (LVX 3 in 1 Treatment), two coats of Aster, and one LVX gel top coat.

Lolli

Lolli (Summer 2014) is a lovely pink creme lacquer and a perfect summer shade for any skin color, but complements sun kissed skin especially well. Very easy application – requiring just 1 or 2 thick coats. With the LVX gel top coat, it made my nails plump and luscious.
