Product Review: BumbleBar

BumbleBar‘s organic sesame seeds are grown by the Shewit farmer’s cooperative located in Baekertown, Northwest Ethiopia. The company helps construct and finance schooling facilities for the farmer’s children by paying an extra .05 for every pound of sesame they buy to aid in funding for the construction of the Baeker School.

I will be reviewing seven BumbleBars: Amazing Almond, Chocolate Crisp, Chocolate Mint, Chunky Cherry, Original Peanut, Chai Almond and Lushus Lemon.

★ ABOUT: “The name ‘BumbleBar’ is meant to evoke thoughts of Bumble Bees. Not only do those cute Bumble Bees pollinate the plants that are responsible for many of our ingredients, especially almonds, but they are also the first animal affected by pesticides and herbicides. As our goal is to promote organic agricultural practices, the bee icon opens a dialogue about the positive benefits of organic farming” (Bumblebar FAQ). All Bumblebars are VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE, certified-organic and certified Kosher. However, they are not raw or soy-free because all the bars contain a small amount of natural vitamin e derived from non-GMO soy and all our nuts are dry-roasted and our binders are heated.

 

The flavours are individualistic for every snack bar. However, the Chunky Cherry was very delicate and sticky compared to other flavours (that also means for fruit-based bars). All Bumblebars are VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE, wheat-free, certified-organic and certified Kosher. They have between 3-5 grams of fiber and 5-7 grams of protein, but high in fat. This is a type of bar I would use during travels, road trips, work-outs or when you are too busy to eat during the day.

Both the Chai Almonds and the Lushus Lemon contain an organic soy crisp and The Chocolate Crisp and Cherry Chocolate do contain soy lecithin as one of the ingredients in the dairy free dark chocolate chip. When you buy a BumbleBar, you are also supporting worker owned co-ops and family farms around the world.

1. AMAZING ALMOND It is sesame-based with a sweet almond flavour. The bar is thin, soft, and a bit sticky. It has a pale colour with visible almonds. It is not hard to chew at all. Great for nut lovers, and contains nuts. I find it more original with not too much flavours involved.

2. CHOCOLATE CRISP As much as I love chocolate, the crispiness comes from the crisp brown rice, sesame seeds and peanuts. It is definitely a chocolate craving, without being just a nutty bar. Also it contains soy lecithin as one of the ingredients in the dairy free dark chocolate chip.

★ INGREDIENTS: Organic Sesame Seeds, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Organic Crisp Brown Rice (Organic Brown Rice, Organic Brown Rice Syrup, Sea Salt), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Dairy Free Chocolate Chips (Organic Cocoa Liquor, Organic Cocoa Butter, Organic Sugar, Soy Lecithin {GMO FREE}), Organic Flax Seeds, Organic Peanuts, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Extract of Vanilla, Sea Salt, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, A Natural Source Vitamin E Used to Protect Freshness.

3. CHOCOLATE MINT Once you open the package, you will immediately smell the refreshing mint. You could tell it’s a mint-based snack bar, plus it’s also a chocolate-based sesame bar with hint of cocoa. The colour and texture are similar to a Chocolate Crisp as reviewed above, but with mint extract. It reminded me of a soft and chewy chocolate mint bar.

4. CHUNKY CHERRYOnce it’s a fruit-based sesame bar, it tends to be sticky and delicate due to the agave. It’s best to eat it from the package if you are on a road trip, or if you don’t like to eat from a package, make sure you have somewhere nearby to wash your hands. I wouldn’t say it is travel-friendly, but it is a bit of hassle to have a very sticky and a bit delicate bar. There are visible chunky cherries on a pale sesame bar, but they are not mentioned in the ingredients, except for “organic cherry flavour.” Great for anyone who loves the juicy flavour of ripe cherries and toasted nuts.

5. ORIGINAL PEANUTWhen I first looked at the package, I expected it to taste like peanut butter with sesame seeds, which is something I was looking forward to enjoying. I loved the fact how small the bar was compared to the others I’ve tried. It has very tasty peanuts and sesame with hints of vanilla, but not so much from the cinnamon.

6. CHAI ALMONDThe Chai Almond contains an organic soy crisp, plus almonds. The flavour is sweet, spiced and describes chai very well. The bar looked a bit more yellow than the other bars probably due to turmeric and other spices. Major ingredients include sesame seeds, almonds, vanilla, and flax seeds.

7. LUSHUS LEMON
You could smell the lemon right away from the package. I find the Chocolate Mint and the Lushus Lemon with versatile scents amongst the others, for instance, you could smell the mint or lemon zest right away. The Lushus Lemon contains soy due to organic soy crisp. I could taste the tangy lemon-based sesame seeds in my mouth. The bar looked a bit yellow like the Chai Almond, due to turmeric.
