Two vegan personal chefs, Laurice Do and Ryan Salomone created a gourmet product, Parmela, a Parmesan cheese replacer that tastes like authentic Parmesan cheese taste. It is cholesterol-free, lactose-free, dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan. Parmela contains all-natural ingredients including blanched almonds, cashews, nutritional yeast flakes, soybeans, salt, tamari (water, soybeans, salt) and vegan lactic acid. The product contains non-GMO soy and tree nuts. These flavours are all grated into a nutty base.

★ MY VERDICT:
I could smell a very nutty flavour from the Parmela once opened. When I made pasta or pizza or even raw pasta, I used loads of this Parmela, they added a bit of savoury and cheesy taste to my dishes. According to a vegetarian (my partner) stated that Parmela provided the same effect as the real grated Parmesan cheese in dishes such as pasta or pizza, however on its own, Parmela shows a noticeable nutty flavour. When do you ever eat Parmesan cheese on its own? It is best to eat your dishes with Parmela if you want grated “Parmesan” cheese. Even an omnivore we knew loved the texture as long as it’s healthy, tasted the same effect, and cholesterol-free. In the past, I envied my partner for eating real grated Parmesan cheese on such delicious pizzas and now I don’t have to, since I finally found the truest and most delicious vegan grated Parmesan cheese, the Parmela! It’s gluten-free and vegan, you cannot miss this at all. It adds a bit of colour to my dishes.
