Vegan Dream Jerky

Vegan Dream Jerky★ PRODUCT NAME: Vegan Dream
★ WEBSITE: www.vegandream.com
★ ABOUT: Vegan Dream started in October of 1997 by founder Mark Turman after being inspired with the idea of Vegetarian “Beef-Less” Jerky in 1995. In April of 1998, Mark sold the company to his friend, Eleanor White when she added her first new flavor “Cowgirl” and a third flavor, “Hot Chili Pepper.” In December 2009, Vegan Dream developed a newest product: “Teriyaki.” As of Summer 2012, all four flavors of Vegan Dream: Teriyaki, Hot Chili Pepper, Hickory Pepper and Cowgirl are now available in over twenty stores from Fort Bragg to Trinidad, and even some in Santa Cruz. They are also available at their online shop. Vegan Dream donates a portion of its products to various non-profit organizations throughout Humboldt County and in other locations.

Vegan Dream Chili Pepper Jerky
Vegan Dream JerkyDoni and I were very impressed with the consistency of traditional dried-meat jerkies, though they are vegan and meatless. They are naturally dry and chewy. You can see visible chili peppers on the Hot Chili Pepper jerky. It is mildly spicy, and not very spicy as we’d thought (we know when it is extremely spicy compared to habanero). There wasn’t much heat on my palate, which will suit anyone who likes a bit of chili pepper flavour. Hot Chili Pepper was the spiciest of all four jerkies.

★ INGREDIENTS: wheat gluten, defatted soy flour, garlic powder, onion powder, chili pepper paste* (chilis, garlic, vinegar, salt, sugar), sea salt, black pepper, psyllium husk, vitamin C, soy sauce (water, extract of soy beans, wheat flour, salt, sugar). *MamaJanisse’s Chili Pepper Paste ®

Store the jerky in a cool spot out of direct sunlight. To keep the jerky for longer than 5 months, it should be kept in the refrigerator. It can also be frozen to extend its normal shelf life.

Vegan Dream Chili Pepper Jerky

Vegan Dream Cowgirl
Vegan Dream Jerky The Cowgirl jerky was chewy, and same consistency as a traditional jerky. The texture looked a bit smooth and blended than the Hot Chili Pepper. Cowgirl was the sweetest of the four jerkies. It is the most appealing across the board because it’s slightly peppery and slightly sweet. It wasn’t just sweet because it had some peppery flavor to it as well so it fit the description on the package. It had a nice balance with a bit of pepperiness to it.

★ INGREDIENTS: wheat gluten, defatted soy flour, tomatoes, garlic, onions, sea salt, black pepper, psyllium husk, vitamin C, soy sauce (water, extract of soy beans, wheat flour, salt, sugar), vinegar, spices, sugar.

Vegan Dream Hickory Pepper

Vegan Dream Jerky The Hickory Pepper jerky appealed a bit darker than the other two for some reason, but Teriyaki (reviewed below) has the darkest colour. With the natural hickory smoke ingredient, it has smoky and robust flavour. It wasn’t as very savoury as Cowgirl. It has a delicious hickory smoked vegan jerky taste. Chewy and same consistency as a traditional jerky, which I’m very impressed with.

★ INGREDIENTS: wheat gluten, defatted soy flour, garlic and onion powder, sea salt, black pepper, psyllium husk, vitamin C, soy sauce (water, extract of soy beans, wheat flour, salt, sugar), natural hickory smoke concentrate.

Vegan Dream Teriyaki

Vegan Dream Jerky Wow, this is our favourite flavour so far! It reminded me of a vegan teriyaki rice dish I would make anytime soon. I could taste the ingredients very well from sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, etc. everything that fits in teriyaki sauce recipe. Teriyaki is certainly teriyaki. It was the mildest (least spicy) of all four jerkies.
