Greyston Bakery is a Yonkers, New York based bakery that has partnered with Ben & Jerry’s since 1989, providing the brownies for some of the ice cream maker’s most popular flavors. In recent years you may have noticed Greyston’s individually packaged brownies at Whole Foods Markets – where we constantly check them while waiting at the register just in case one might be vegan! With the introduction of the new vegan line of Ben & Jerry’s non-dairy frozen desserts, Greyston has not only provided the vegan brownies for Ben & Jerry’s vegan ice cream but also produced vegan brownies that will be available exclusively in Whole Foods Markets nationwide this April!
While we’ve spotted Greyston brownies (and blondies) at Whole Foods, we never put the connection together that they were the same company providing brownies to Ben & Jerry’s for the past 27 years. This amazing B Corp has a remarkable story and we were fortunate to meet with members of their team and learn a lot more about what makes Greyston just so remarkable when we were invited to visit Ben & Jerry’s in February 2016.
Greyston Bakery was founded in 1982 with an open hiring policy that remains in place today. At Greyston they believe that everyone is employable regardless of their history, background or socio-economic status. The company and their charitable foundation continue to grow and give back to the local community of Yonkers in a myriad of ways. Take a moment to visit their site to learn more about the tremendous and progressive efforts Greyston has made to be a bakery on a mission to help strengthen and develop their community.
Greyston Vegan Fudge Brownies are an injection of pure, sweet, chocolate indulgence and we love them. They’re true to the Greyston brand of brownies, which are known for being rich and fudge-like. These aren’t dry, bready brownies. Nope. These are rich, decadent, fudge brownies! Even if we didn’t love the almond milk based chocolate ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, we did savor the morsels of frozen brownies laced throughout Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Chocolate Fudge Brownie frozen dessert.
We love this company, we love what they stand for and we love their vegan brownies. We can’t wait for Greyston Vegan Fudge Brownies to be available in stores this April, and in case you don’t have a Whole Foods nearby they will be expanding to your local shops and co-ops later in 2016. Keep an eye out for Greyston’s Vegan Fudge Brownies and maybe if they do well enough we can even convince them to start making vegan blondies! (one can hope, right?)
