Lifestyle Product Review: BEAT IT! All Natural Insect Repellent

Gloria Starita started Beat It which has evolved into its own company from her base company Jade & Pearl. She wanted to create a Deet-Free insect repellent that would repel more than mosquitoes. Beat It was tested by University of Florida for effectiveness and the results showed over an 8 hour period: Beat It was more effective than Deet.

Beat It is safe to use on pets, toddlers and infants. Beat It repels ticks and fleas on cats and dogs and keeps flies off your horses.

The Verdict

I stayed in Phuket (pictured below) where there were loads of small mosquitoes in the alley. I lasted 3-5 medium to large mosquito bites if I exited the alley to a vehicle, without any use of mosquito repellent. I avoid DEET or repellents that contain chemicals due to the toxic smell and minor skin reaction I had in the past.

I tried the 4 oz spray pump aluminum bottle from Beat It!. The 4 oz aluminum bottle fits perfectly in my checked luggage without any collateral damage or leakage after numerous bumpy international flights and strict customs. The repellent smelled like fresh lemongrass, very fresh and lemony. It also left my skin feeling smooth due to the aloe vera and coconut oil ingredients. It did not stain my dresses or shorts as I sprayed my legs often.

I sprayed once a day, and it lasted long except for shower or swimming. I felt very safe with the mosquito repellent whenever I go out for the day or in the evening. I would love to see more sweet or customized scents for Beat It! insect repellents, such as citrus essential oils (grapefruit, mandarin, blood orange, etc.) rather than just the lemongrass smell.
