Product Review: humangear

5th September 2012

Do you fly a few times or do long road trip? Do you travel with bulky containers or bags as a vegan, trying to pack your own snacks or toiletries? I do that often when I travel and it makes my carry-on items complicated.

humangear offers travel-friendly products that are perfect in any toiletry kit, backpack, book-bag, briefcase, purse and almost anything else. Products include GoCup, GoToob, GoTubb and CapCap.

I will be reviewing two humangear products: GoTubb and GoCup.

ABOUT: Located in San Francisco, CA, humangear was founded in 2007 with a mission to develop ‘real gear for real humans.’ These products are developed by Chris Miksovsky, Founder and Chief Executive Human of humangear. humangear is passionate about creating remarkable and responsible products that, at least in some small way, make the world a better place. (humangear About).

WHERE TO BUY: humangear products are sold at sporting goods, outoor, travel, luggage, natural product, and general goods retailers. They are also available online.

humangear gocup

GoCup is one of humangear’s travel products: it is 100% leak-proof and made of FDA food-grade silicone, that keeps your water tasting like water. They come in 4 fl. oz. and 8 fl.oz. in three different colours: Clear, Green and Blue. I received 4 fl. oz. in green colour, which is my favourite colour. GoCup expands with a quick pull and collapses into an compact puck shape (2.75 inches diameter) after a simple press. You can slip GoCup easily into pockets, toiletry kits and bags. The lids are also pill holders, plus they keep things hygienic during transport. Only in 8 fl. oz., they feature a “DoubleDecker” tray that gives you the option of two smaller chambers (i.e., to organize pills), or one large chamber. GoCup features volume markings (1/2 cup and 2 shots) to help measure fluids. The GoCup is dishwasher-safe (top rack only). Hold it from the bottom or the upper lip if you put a hot beverage in it.

The GoCup would not be ideal for international air travel if they feature just a handy pill holder. Bringing unidentified pills overseas is not a good idea, but bringing them during your travel (on grounds) or work routine is an awesome idea, because everywhere you travel, you still need them on a daily basis without forgetting. I would recommend packing an empty GoCup and labelled prescriptions on carry-on during air travel, and place the pills you will finish in the GoCup during flying. However I would use these empty GoCups (the larger size, 8 fl. oz., goes up to 1 cup and 200 ml) as an eco-friendly method to save these plastic cups that were served on flights.

NOTES: All GoCups are PC-free, phthalate-free, and BPA-free. FDA food-grade silicone to create a collapsing cup that is 100% leak proof. It comes in 4 fl. oz. and 8 fl.oz. sizes, in three cool colors. Both sizes of GoCup are marked for “cups” and “ml.” The 8. fl. oz. size goes up to 1 cup and 200 ml, while the 4 fl. oz. size goes up to 1/2 a cup and 100 ml. The 4 fl. oz. size also has markings for 1 and 2 shots.

humangear gotubb

GoTubb is humangear’s “one-handed travel container” that open and close any orientation without frustration: use one hand to squeeze open and press closed. They come in two different sizes: Small and Large, whereas both GoTubb sizes come in three-packs of clear, blue, and green colors. GoTubbs are water-resistant, not water-proof. They are not intended to hold fluids, however, humangear designs GoToobs for use with fluids as well as squeezing. GoTubbs have textured labeling area that resists wearing off, which is a huge plus for organisation.

Small – .9 cu. in. (14cc)
Large – 5.3 cu. in. (86cc)

Small – 1.4 in. (36mm)
Large – 2.9 in. (74mm)

Small – 1.0 in. (26mm)
Large – 1.2 in. (30mm)

I received the three packs of large GoTubbs (5.3 cu. in., or 86cc) in Clear, Blue and Green. They hold a bit of everything from dry contents such as snacks to vitamins, except for fluids, lotions or creams. With the transparent top, it allows you to see the interior without opening. I find the large GoTubbs useful for packing my cables and foreign currencies (changes). It is definitely a one-handed container. It’s easy to open it and close it with one hand, especially if you have a lot of items in the container, you can open it with one hand without frustration.
