I was very keen to try a gluten-free and vegan cheese product that contains oatmeal, so I tried two “We Can’t Say It’s Cheese” products from Wayfare Foods, and these two flavours were pretty unique for me than just “cheddar”:
1. Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Spread
2. Mexi Cheddar-Style Dip

The Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style cheese has the same consistency as a creamy peanut butter (not the flavour). If you apply it to a grilled cheese sandwich on a pan, the cheese melted fantastic with a hickory flavour. You may feel that you won’t need a vegan faux smoky bacon or meat in your sandwich or dish because this flavour provides it all, except for texture. It gives a savoury hickory flavour while other vegan cheese brands tend to be on a sweeter side. It delivers the unique flavour to the cheese melt. It is easy, quick and simple to spread Wayfare vegan cheese from the container rather than the package (which may require storing in a different bag).

Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Wayfare Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Cheese
If you spread the cheese and heat it up on a pan, it doesn’t get runny, but gives a gooey look, which is the best part. I personally don’t like to deal with runny cheeses because they tend to be messy. From now on, I would use it for quick vegan cheese melts dishes! It’s simple and easy to make a grilled cheese within minutes!
Quesadilla with Green Onions, Cilantro, Avocado, Soy Rizo, and Wayfare Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Cheese with Hawaiian Red Salt and Pesto Mayo
Just toast one side of tortilla, flip, then spread cheese, add soy rizo and cilantro/green onions/chopped avocado garnish. Let the exterior fry. Fold it and fry both sides. Garnish with Hawaiian Red Salt and Pesto Mayo.
Crispy Chicken Burger with Pepperoncini, Tomatoes and Wayfare Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style Cheese melt
I love any quick burgers-to-go with a bit of heat such as Pepperoncini. Just bake both of these buns at 400 degrees F for 3 minutes each side. Then broil the cheese spreads for about 5 minutes, and you are good to go! I used Trader Joe’s Chickenless Crispy Tenders.
The Mexi Cheddar-Style Dip has similar texture, consistency and colour as the Hickory-Smoked Cheddar-Style spread, but differs in flavour. I am having difficulty understanding the use of wording: dip and spread since both products share similar features, except for flavour. There’s no smoked hickory smell or flavour in the Mexi Cheddar, but has some mild spices. It is great with pasta, grilled sandwiches or even mac n’ cheese. I would recommend this flavour for anyone who does not like a strong hickory flavour. It is more of an original Wayfare vegan cheese flavour to me.

Vegan and Gluten-Free Spicy Mac n’ Cheese with Wayfare’s Mexi Cheddar-Style Dip
This is a great vegan cheese base for a quick mac n’ cheese to go! We boiled 1 1/4 cup gluten-free elbow pasta and pour them in the big pot. We added half tin of Wayfare’s Mexi Cheddar-Style Dip, seasoned it with pinch of onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper, and lastly 1 tablespoon of sea salt and chili flakes for more flavour. I prefer my mac n’ cheese creamy and savoury. We also added frozen peas (boil for a minute, then let it cool in chunky ice), and garnish with chopped green onions and more chili flakes for heat. We used spicy curry sauce or hot pepper sauce to add more heat to the dish.
