Eugene: Sweet Life Patisserie

25th May 2012

I live in Eugene, Oregon few times a year where there are couple of respected vegan (and-friendly) companies such as Luna and Larry’s Coconut Bliss or Tofutti. I received a gift card for Christmas at Sweet Life Patisserie and knowing that I’ve been there very often, I am always eager to try something new. Their vegan cakes & pies are pretty dense and heavy for my taste (except for their vegan muffins or cookies) but it doesn’t hurt to try 1-2 times a year.

“Sweet Life Patisserie is a patisserie that specializes in sweet baked goods: cakes, cheesecakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, pastries, gelato and more […] They serve an organic tea, coffee and espresso bar. They serve special occasion cakes and wedding cakes by special order or last minute out of our case. They also have many dietary restricted options like gluten-free, egg- and dairy-free, and sugar-free. […] They use Guittard chocolates, local hormone-free dairy, natural flavorings, expeller-pressed oil, fair-trade and pesticide-free vanilla and trans-fat-free non-GMO organic palm oil for pies. They use some organic and locally grown ingredients.” (Sweet Life Patisserie, Facebook).

Vegan Salted Caramel Chocolate Cupcake
I never had a salted caramel cupcake before, but I thought it was an unique dessert. I thought it was a bit salty for my taste, but the caramel topping was very good with the chocolate cupcake. The cupcake wasn’t too bad and the golden artistic chocolate square was very delicious.

Vegan Blueberry Cheesecake
I am a massive fan of vegan cheesecakes, sometimes it’s difficult to find the right one. My ideal vegan cheesecake has to be creamy (and I hate to taste the tofu). Unfortunately this cheesecake reveals too much tofu, but the blueberry topping was good. I think I had their vegan strawberry cheesecake from some local grocery and it tasted good because it didn’t use too much tofu. I guess there are different bakers at Sweet Life with different techniques, you never know.
