The 6th VeganMoFo post is about our third week in Sagunt + Valencia, Spain (September 1-6, 2013), including some sightseeing spots. Today, as of September 10th (5:31 am), is our last week here in Spain. We will be flying from Spain to Buenos Aires in a week.
day 14-17: september 1-4, 2013
In the beginning of our third week, we explored the Ruzafa district of Valencia and a few vegan-friendly eateries (read the post here). Apparently today we found a new vegan-friendly eatery also in the Ruzafa district that is not listed on Happy Cow Valencia including another one near the Plaza de Toros de Valencia (Valencia Bullring – ugh!). We will check out 4-5 vegan-friendly eateries including Loving Hut Valencia and post their dishes here later this week.
day 18: september 5, 2013
We took a train to a small town Sagunt (or Sagunto in Spanish) from La Estación del Norte (The North Station, Valencia-Estación del Norte) in central Valencia (Valencia-E.Del Nord). Trains run throughout the day from Valencia daily and it’s about 30-minute train ride. It is worth a few-hour trip to see this ancient city Sagunt – you will see the Sagunt Castle from Hannibal’s era with a beautiful view of the city and the medieval villages that remind you of scenes from Mamma Mia! film.
You should allow 2 1/2 – 3 hours, at minimum for visiting the Sagunt and the Castle as well as photography. We were there for nearly 5 hours and we sat around the parks for 2 hours to pass the time until boarding.
“The town is the ancient Saguntum, which is thought to have been founded by Greek colonists from Zákinthos (Zante; whence its name” (Encyclopedia Britannica). Sagunt is located close to the Costa del Azahar on the Mediterranean Sea.

day 19: september 6, 2013
Somewhere in the Ciutat Vella district, we approached a few feral cats hiding under the cars. They are far different than the house cats (I’ve seen them in balconies and at door steps). Apparently they were fed by someone else, which was pretty nice. It’s nice to know that they are taken care of.
One of the junk yards in central Valencia filled with scraps. The graffiti was fantastic.
For dinner, we had a vegan pizza with Violife herb cheeze slices, bell pepper, mushrooms, corn and fresh basil leaves. The Violife cheeze is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and palm oil-free.
These are vegan ice cream cones (gelato) by an Italian brand, Valsoia. I mentioned them in my older posts on Rome and Stuttgart (Germany). Valosia products are only available at El Corte Inglés (read the review and addresses here). The Tofutti Yours Truly Caramel Sundae Cones are better that the Valsoia ice cream cones due a bit tougher cone. However, I like both, so I can have them here in Europe and the Tofutti in the U.S.
