Phuket: SuperNatural at Friendship Beach Waterfront Resort

3rd March 2013

I would like to thank Jackie, from VeganYackAttack for inviting me to be her guest blogger this year!

My partner and I stayed for one month in Phuket, Thailand for the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, which I will be blogging about later this year. We stayed at a 2-bedroom flat across Friendship Beach, which is located in the southern part of Phuket. Apparently we discovered a vegan-friendly and raw-friendly “outdoor” eatery next-door, SuperNatural which is at Friendship Beach Waterfront Resort, a hotel, resort and spa. They also have a wellness spa and de-tox center. The restaurant doesn’t have a name nor a signage, but their menu was titled, “SuperNatural” and I assumed the restaurant’s name would be SuperNatural.

Friendship Beach,
Phuket 83130 Thailand
Daily 7am – 10pm (as of 2012)

It is located 2.6 kilometers south of Chalong Circle (between Chalong Circle and Rawai). Just tell the driver you are heading to Rawai.

SuperNatural do not use artifical colors, flavors, or MSG in any of their dishes. They only create dishes from natural ingredients available. In their menu, they have a small raw vegan section, few vegan salads, main courses, burgers and sandwiches, soups and Thai dishes including their terrific raw and vegan juices and smoothies.

I would like to extend my gratitude to Memo, a manager at SuperNatural for sending me a copy of the menu for my readers. Please note, their menu may change over time (as of October 2012). You can contact Friendship Beach Waterfront Resort for a copy of their menu in advance.

Here is the copy of the menu, you can download here, or e-mail me at veganmiam(at) as well.

This is the view from SuperNatural “outdoor” restaurant at Friendship Beach Waterfront Resort. Gorgeous view, very quiet and serene. Great for anyone who is going through detox, a quiet getaway, or peaceful sessions. This is completely the opposite of Pattaya Beach.

Please note, this is a bit lengthy menu (as of October 2012) and not all menu items are vegan. According to the bottom of the menu, the two red hearts denote, “vegan” that contain no animal products, and the one red heart denotes “vegetarian”. It is very considerate of the restaurant to denote menu items for vegan and vegetarian, which makes our dining experience easier and comfortable. Also note, this is only a vegan-friendly and raw-friendly eatery.

On the left, I had “Tropical Dream” smoothie for 120 B, which consists of pineapple, coconut and banana (I wish I added ice). On the right, I had Green Dragon “Cooler” – 190 B, a market fresh leafy greens and parsley with green apple, cucumber, broccoli and lime. It is very convenient to have a next door eatery that makes fresh juices and smoothies made of fresh and natural ingredients while your temporary kitchen didn’t have a blender or juicer! It’s hard to travel without a juicer whenever I need one!

I wish I requested ice in the first place, because I honestly don’t work well with room temperature juices especially if you are eating outdoor. I was too excited to try their yummy juices since I’m a raw juicing addict.

I was craving for something savoury. It was our second day in Phuket, and groceries were too far to walk to. I had one of their appetizers, “Tofu Filets”, grilled tofu and veggie planks with coconut curry. I wish they can add more of these grilled tofu and veggie planks, but the coconut curry tasted really delicious. I liked the fact that their grilled tofu was entirely yellow. The presentation was quirky yet stunning.

My partner wanted some Thai food, so we had a “Classic Pad Thai”, pan-fried rice noodles with tamarind sauce, crushed peanuts and bean sprouts. The staff at SuperNatural were very aware of our dietary needs since they also serve vegan, raw and vegetarian sections on their menu. They replaced the egg with tofu, which was pretty delicious. We thought the dish was pretty good, but wished the portion was bigger.

Again, I would like to thank Jackie for inviting me to guest blog on VeganYackAttack, one of the coolest vegan blogs!

I will be blogging more about my vegan eats in Phuket and the Phuket Vegetarian Festival this year, so keep an eye out on my new posts on Vegan Miam. Thank you and have a fabulous 2013!
